Getting rid of Netanyahu won’t solve the problem

Netanyahu

Don’t get me wrong – seeing Netanyahu out of his job and behind bars is probably a good first step on the long road to justice and peace. That has to happen but, now world leaders are (Finally! Will wonders never cease!) finding it hard to act as though nothing much is wrong in Israel, you can see them lining up to present a change of leader as the solution.

We must all remember this: Israel has been committing terrible crimes against Palestinians for a long time – long before the current set of politicians took office. The legal ‘right of return’ to Israel/Palestine is still the automatic right of anyone from the US, UK or Europe who claims descent from someone in a bible story, even if neither they nor their parents ever set foot in Israel. It belongs to them, but not to the many Palestinians who’ve had to run away from Israeli guns.

All those Palestinians stuck in refugee camps in Gaza, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, and those scattered further around the world, had homes and lands stolen from them by Israeli settlers and that will go on happening if Netanyahu is replaced by any other set of Zionists Israel currently has as governments-in-waiting.

It was the Western powers who put this terrible situation in place, and who have maintained and fed it for 75 years. Any solution ‘offered’ and ‘managed’ by the western powers is likely to be every bit as dangerous to Palestinians.

Whatever the solution is (I don’t know, and I doubt you do, unless you are Palestinian) is not ours to decide. Our governments should attempt to right the wrongs they have committed, but they should be exerting themselves to  help and protect Palestinians in any way they can until such time as Palestinians are safe enough and organized enough to decide together what should happen next.

Zionism and US supremacy

In case any politicians are reading this, may I remind you — the movement to #FreePalestine is not partisan. It’s a demand for democracy and fair play. Sooner or later, you will have to accept that most of the people in the world have now worked out that Zionism is not compatible with democracy, and nor is your medieval ‘allies and enemies’ way of running the world, with the US as the biggest liege lord in the game. The United Nations was supposed to protect us from that state of affairs. Please make it work.

People want fair play. That’s why trying to use Netanyahu as your scapegoat will not fool many people. Bring him to justice, then do the rest of the job.
