Refutation of a False Allegation of Spitting at Filia Conference 2025
At Filia conference a false allegation of spitting was made during a filmed session. A woman claimed she had been spat at in the face in the queue to the venue, in retaliation for making a critical comment to another woman about her wearing Palestine solidarity clothing items at the conference.
This person did make a critical comment, however there was no retaliatory response — either physical or verbal – from the person it was directed at, nor from friends who were with them at the time. The false report was amplified on social media, and was part of a pattern of harassment towards – and bad faith interpretations of the actions of – feminists who were vocally or visibly pro-Palestine, as well as towards women of colour and those visibly Muslim, by supporters of Israel.
The victim of this false allegation therefore wishes to publicly share the results of the Filia investigation into this incident, which exonerate her. Filia were made aware of the intention to publicise the below communication in order to set the public record straight, and raised no objection.
