Is something burning?

I hope not, I really do – but I was reminded today of a tweet that blazed across the screens from women’s groups a few years ago. I had no idea who this guy was, but he said…

… That was two and a half years ago. And THAT was several years after women started turning up to talk to councils, charity boards and school meetings to explain that ‘inclusion’ is not a virtue, if you are ignoring the Equality Act exceptions to allow one group to ‘include’ themselves in another group’s spaces and services.

When it’s women defending women’s spaces, we regularly get fobbed off with ‘ah, but we are inclusive – transwomen are women’ and, ‘ah, but if a person has fully transitioned…’

We THEN have to explain that there is no legal definition of ‘transwomen’. Anyone can say they’re trans, so you just destroyed the exception for women.

We THEN have to explain that there is no legal definition of ‘fully transitioned’, nor is there any civilized way of checking this so if you are ‘inclusive’, you are saying anyone can impose themselves on women’s spaces and services merely by saying ‘I am trans’.

We THEN try to explain that just because it’s possible that a predatory male would say ‘I am a transwoman’ in order to gain access to women does not mean that we’re implying transwomen are predatory males – we just want some things reserved strictly for females, as is our right under the law….

I say ‘try to’, because we’ve normally been shouted down, thrown out or otherwise shut up by then.

House on fire

Hundreds, if not thousands of women have been doing this for YEARS.

They have to keep on doing it because up and down the land, countless councillors and charity and school board members STILL have not bothered to find out the basic facts about women and transwomen, or what the law actually says…

…or else they genuinely don’t care about women…

… or else they really believe that transwomen, without exception (that is, anyone who says ‘I am a woman’) really are women and if that’s the case, one can only ask why they have not thought about the fact that allowing predatory males easy access is not just disastrous for women, it’s pretty damned dangerous for transwomen, too.

Is something burning?

Please watch this (three minute) clip of Manchester City Council this week, and tell me how many years you think you could patiently go on doing this…

Posted with sincere, heartfelt, in fact tearful thanks to all those women – in this case, the women from the Greater Manchester Women’s Rights Network
