Is that the headline that’ll get the attention we need on this issue?
The crime….
The consequences…
Up until now, it was mostly older women who got ‘switched off’, ‘cancelled’, because of the inconvenient noise trans activists made.
Let’s get one thing straight — it’s not unpopular opinions people get cancelled for, nor is it bigoted opinions. People get cancelled for opinions that are opposed by a well-networked TwitX mob. Those are the ones that can cause inconvenience to organizations, trade unions and political parties. Well-funded, corporate backed, high-tech, TwitX mob backed forces.
But if the forces behind an attack like this persist, the “mob” does, eventually, exist. If enough thugs, lost souls and trendy-trend followers join in what they imagine is a cool movement, it can generate genuine shouty crowds – but they come after, they are not the first cause.
Almost invariably, when people talk about the people who’ve been hounded out or sacked – what did they say, what did they do? People realize they don’t disagree with much of what they said. That includes trans people. I have trans friends who don’t disagree with J K Rowling, or with the women’s campaign generally. This is not about views about trans people. This is about the habit of organizations of dumping people who become inconvenient because an apparent mob, usually a TwitX-based mob, cry foul against them.
In the UK, that has lost us unknown numbers of, as I said, mostly older women – those who have the knowledge and the confidence to articulate an unfashionable opinion. Do we just let this pass? Is this a good thing in a healthy society? Especially in education and politics, where surely courageous thinkers and debaters are somewhat important?
This isn’t the first time it’s happened to a man — I know of several in the UK who’ve been victims. Maybe it just goes on happening until the world is ready to understand.
Now, the impetus of the ‘hound out terfs’ phenomenon seems to be mostly in the US and Australia — now, it mostly happens over here when someone says something about Palestine that sets the Israel lobby off. Fortunately, quite a lot of people get that one now so they don’t get so isolated but whatever the mob issue is, don’t you think we should stop just sitting there and watching good people go down?
