International law

I wrote to my MP this morning. I suggest we all do this. Here’s what I said…

Dear Helena Dollimore,

In his attack on Venzuela, Donald Trump has further progressed the world’s catastrophic slide into gangster-rule. In what is without question a multiple breach of international law, Trump has kidnapped the president and his wife, killed at least another 40 Venezuelan citizens and announced his intention to ‘take back’ Venezuelan oil, and take over the government.

Shamefully, our own Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, seems unable to respond meaningfully to this situation, attempting to simultaneously support Trump’s action and claim allegiance to international law.

As a citizen of the UK, I require the politicians who represent me to be clear in their support for the law and at this dangerous time, I require a clear statement from them. Could you please let your colleagues know that attacking a sovereign state, kidnapping its leaders and taking over for your own commercial advantage is unquestionably illegal, and could you also please make a public statement demanding the immediate release of President Maduro and his wife.

 Thank you,

Yours sincerely,

Kay Green
