Thank you!

Snap dragons and masquerade rose after rain

It’s too long since I’ve said it with flowers.

Thank you, to readers of my blog who have commented, liked, shared, subscribed or donated. You are the people who keep a blog alive. Thank you.

Thank you to those who share indie blogs across platforms, or into different groups — not only are you helping those writers find new readers, you are the people who help all of us find new things to read. You keep us thinking, questioning and learning.

And thank you to critical friends. That’s not a joke, although people often think it is. Proof readers, fact-checkers and information providers are treasures. An extra special thank you to those incredible souls with accurate, organized memories who so often drop me a line to let me know exactly where what happened, and who published what about what.

I feel it’s more important than ever to thank blog supporters just now, as our legacy media, our politicians and the gossip-streams of social media spin ever further from reality. The need for discussion from different angles and I-was-there reporting is greater than ever — all the way from amateur commentators like me to the giddy heights of those freelancers who crowdfund for air tickets into war zones, and bring back honest news.

My most recent experience of those bravest of indies was a couple of weeks ago when Guy Smallman did a presentation about Lebanon in my town — excellent work! Do go take a look…

People often ask, if they don’t follow the BBC etc, how will they know anything. Well, I know what I know through indie blogs and commentaries, and by going to conferences and talks. It’s because I follow the doings of Dr Jane Clare Jones in feminist-world that I know which very famous names diligently cancelled their subs to the New York Times to avoid hearing about Israeli crimes…

…. and it was through the shares and commentaries on my blog this week that I came across a link to those Israeli pro-rape demos. An important aspect of the current controversies around Israel’s latest wave of Hasbara (propaganda) that I was writing about at the time. In fact, what I learned there will be the topic of my next blog.

How do you stay informed in a world gone mad?

Read, listen, discuss, learn, write.

All the best, and thanks for reading!
